The Nikon D1 is a digital single-lens reflex camera introduced on June 15, 1999. This camera features a 2.7-megapixel image sensor and can capture images continuously at 4.5 frames per second. It is compatible with all Nikon F-mount lenses.
The D1 was Nikon's first professional digital SLR camera capable of competing with Kodak and other manufacturers, which were essentially digital conversions of existing analog cameras. The D1, on the other hand, was an entirely new camera built from the ground up. Its key marketing advantage was its price. While competitors were offering digital cameras for around $30,000, the D1 was priced at 'only' $5,500 at its introduction.
